Dealing with behavorial emergiencies

General rules for dealing with a psych patient.
Identify yourself and your role |
speak slowly and clearly, be calm and reassuring |
listen to the person, you may repeat part of their sentence. |
do not be judgemental |
show compassion not pity |
use positive body language |
acknowledge the patients feelings |
do not enter the patients personal space |
be alert for changes in behavior and emotional status |
never let him get between you and the door |
Most Psych patients on medication function just fine while they are on their meds.
Always remember that your safety is first.
